Hominis

Hominis is a series of four pieces reflecting upon man’s relationship and understanding of the world around him: Hand of Man, Waves of Man, Knowledge of Man, Network of Man.

The series looks at what man has constructed in the physical world but also what man has constructed within its own mind. And the word “man” is used intentionally to reflect the male dominated world that has existed historically and how it has influenced and biased what has been constructed by humanity. The duality of the seen and unseen is manifested in the work by having two different visual experiences when the pieces are viewed from a distance versus upon closer examination. It is reminiscent of Salvador Dali’s “Lincoln in Dalivision” but it is a much more granular and subtle application of the technique that is only possible because of the recent advancements in generative AI image technology. The use of generative AI is another layer of commentary about the physical versus what only exists in our minds, contemplating the nature of what is real or artificial.

Extending the duality presented in the series, the artwork exists in two realms. One is the physical realm, where each of the four pieces in the series are editions of 8 with two artist proofs. These will be available for purchase through Alisan Fine Arts NYC.

The second is in the digital realm, where each of the four pieces will exist as a 1/1 NFT in the form of a video. The video is what is described as “cinematic AI” by the artist and explores the motif through zooming in and out as if you were flying through it using Google Earth, but scenes are also given motion through the use of generative AI video. If you are interested in the 1/1 NFTs please reach out directly to the artist or through Alisan Fine Arts NYC.

The artworks in the physical realm and the digital realm are envisioned to be independent of each other but of course share the same DNA. They are meant to be collected and seen as separate artworks, each with they own unique manifestations of the core artistic vision, as opposed to what is commonly referred to as “digital twins” (i.e. the same work represented in physical and digital forms).
