Grus Lupus
Grus Lupus is the first series born from my exploration of noise. I programmatically degrade familiar imagery, injecting incredibly fine detail and motion into the decay. The process transforms the static into the dynamic, and the pristine into the gritty. Even as the artwork appears blurry and unmoving from afar, closer inspection reveals a world of intense, microscopic activity.
In this 32-piece collection, I examine two central spirit animals from my new film, The Inheritance of Living, through this lens of noise. I place the crane and the wolf under a microscope, manipulating them to capture snapshots of the unseen. What emerges is a bright, soft fluidity—an energy that feels deeply familiar, yet entirely foreign.
This collection bridges my art and film practices. By pairing these mediums, they become two sides of the same coin, inviting you to engage with my work in a completely new way. Each exists in its traditional context—a film in a theater, a 1/1/X NFT collection on the blockchain. One is not a derivative of the other. The collection is not a series of film screenshots, nor is the film a mere narrative backdrop for the art. They stand independently, deeply bound by their unique creative workflows.
Grus Lupus is a 1/1/X ERC-721 NFT collection. Beyond the artwork itself, the token acts as the key between the film and the artwork, unlocking gated online access to the short film for those unable to attend the NYC screening, and offering preferential entry to those who can attend if seats become limited.
